Live Theater Session by Novagard: Protecting Sensors in Harsh Environments: The Advantages of UV and Platinum-Catalyzed Silicones
Session details:
Silicones offer significant advantages in sensor applications. Silicones typically have good adhesion to many substrates, thermal stability across a wide temperature range, flexibility, water repellence, chemical resistance, and resistance to oxidative, UV and microbial degradation.
Selecting the right cure time is key for advanced electronics. Curing too quickly may result in an unworkable component that fails quality inspection, while curing too slowly may create a bottleneck in the manufacturing process. Silicone materials are available with multiple cure mechanisms, including 1-component moisture, 2-component moisture, UV, UV/dual cure, and platinum-catalyzed addition cure.
The mechanism and characteristics of available silicone cure reactions and their effects on processing capabilities will be discussed in this presentation as well as a live demonstration of UV cure on demand.
