Single Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPADs) are playing an increasingly important role in photon counting and low-light imaging applications. This talk will provide an overview of SPAD fundamentals, address key challenges in optimizing performance, and highlight recent advancements in SPAD device architecture. We’ll also explore how these developments are enabling practical applications that require precise photon timing, including time-of-flight LiDAR and fluorescence lifetime imaging.
